Do you need a visa to travel to Mauritius? What are the entry conditions and health requirements? Find the answers to your questions in this article.

European and Canadian nationals

If you are a European and Canadian national, you do not require a visa to stay in Mauritius for a period of less than or equal to three months, as long as you're in possession of the following:

  • A passport valid for at least six months after the stay in Mauritius
  • A return ticket to the country of origin
  • Proof of accommodation, such as hotel booking, or the full details of the host/landlord (name, forename, address, and telephone number)
  • The financial means for the duration of the stay (cash, traveller's cheques, bank cards)

Health requirements

A yellow fever vaccination is required if you have visited an infected country prior to coming to Mauritius, and you will need to show the international certificate for it.

Application for Extension of Visa

Visas are usually issued for a maximum period of three months. A person may, however, be able to request a visa extension at the Passport& Immigration Office in Mauritius.

The extension is usually valid for another three months only. Therefore, the maximum length of the stay (3 months at first, then 3 months after the extension) is 6 months and is valid for one year, meaning that in one year, a person can only stay up to 6 months on a tourist visa.

Foreign Nationals

Non-European and non-Canadians nationals should contact the Mauritian Diplomatic Representation in their country of residence for more information and the requirements for entry in Mauritius. Air Mauritius, the national airline company of Mauritius, should also be able to provide the necessary information.
