Australian universities are among the most highly rated in the world, while admission requirements are relatively flexible and tuition fees relatively affordable. In addition, the infrastructure and educational facilities they offer are of a high quality.

With 43 universities, two of which are private - the University of Notre Dame and the University of Bond - Australian universities offer degrees in two distinct cycles. The "postgraduate" includes the equivalent of Master 1, Master 2, DEA and Doctorate.

And the undergraduate level includes two types of Bachelor Degrees:
-The Bachelor Degree, which lasts 3 to 4 years after the baccalaureate, depending on the course chosen.
-The Honours Degree, a level more or less equivalent to the Master's Degree, requiring one year more than the previous one, the time needed to prepare a thesis.

Among the top ranked Australian universities in 2022: Australian National University, University of Sydney, University of Melbourne, University of New South Wales, University of Queensland, Monash University, University of Western Australia and University of Adelaide.

So, if you are interested in pursuing higher education in Australia, it is advisable to look into these institutions as their standards are comparable to those of prestigious universities such as Harvard and many others, where the admission requirements are difficult, both in terms of the level required and the amount of tuition fees. Among the graduates of these top universities are prominent researchers and Nobel laureates.

Admission requirements for Australian universities

In Australia, courses are generally taught in English, so you need to have a good score on the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or IELTS (International English Language Testing System) to be able to study there.

However, if you do not have a sufficient level of English, the majority of major universities offer refresher courses and training to pass these tests. Apart from the results of one of these tests, which must be included with your application, there is no competitive examination to enter Australian universities; the selection is made on the basis of applications and interviews.

Once accepted, you must obtain a student visa via the Australian Government Department of Home Affairs website. Australia offers training courses that last only 6 months, and are rewarded with a certificate that allows you to enter the world of work immediately. However, you can also opt for courses lasting from 2 to 5 years and it is also possible to obtain a diploma with two specialties at the same time, for example, business studies done in parallel with courses in music, agriculture or construction.

Note: To address labor shortages, the government has temporarily relaxed the working hours for student visas. Students can work before their course starts and can also work more than 40 hours per fortnight in any sector of the economy.

Australia's major universities

There is no university system in Australia, but the degrees awarded by the faculties are internationally recognized. Among the most successful is the Australian National University (ANU), which is based in Canberra. Its main campus in Acton includes seven teaching and research colleges, in addition to several national academies and institutes. It trains experts in the arts, social sciences, business, medicine, law, mathematics, computer science and engineering, among other fields.

Founded in 1850 as Australia's first university, the University of Sydney has 18 faculties and offers the largest number of degrees. The quality of its teaching places it among the best academic institutions in the country. It has a campus near the city center. The university that welcomes the most foreigners is the one in Melbourne, being in partnership with many universities around the world. It offers students the opportunity to take "double bachelor" courses.

Another renowned Australian university, Monash University, located in Melbourne, is the second oldest university in Victoria. With its 5 campuses (including one in Malaysia), it is one of the leading MBA providers. The specialties offered to students are numerous and varied.
