Best Places To See Wildlife in India

The diversity in India does not merely extend to its people and the culture of the land but is also aptly represented in the wildlife that can be found within the country. With 89 national parks and over 400 wildlife sanctuaries, India is home to some of the rarest species of the animal kingdom. To truly experience the wildlife within the country, you can visit any of the following destinations: 1. Kaziranga National Park: Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Kaziranga National Park is home to spectacular species such as the famed one-horned rhinoceros, Asiatic elephants and the Royal Bengal Tiger. The park is located in Assam and is 430 sq. kms of unencumbered nature at its very best. 2. Periyar National Park: Located right in the middle of the scenic Periyar Lake in Kerala, the Periyar National Park is a slice of wildlife lovers heaven. The park will provide you an opportunity to view tigers, barking deers, elephants and Sambars. 3. Kanha National Park: One of the largest national parks in the country with a coverage area of nearly 2000 sq. kms, the Kanha National Park in Madhya Pradesh is a highly proactive national park and one of the most respected facilities within the country. The park is constantly looking to protect and preserve its animals with many conservations schemes developed for this purpose. This is because you can find many noble and rare animals here such as the tiger, leopard, python, chital and porcupine. 4. Sunderbans National Park: It is the largest estuarine forest in West Bengal and more importantly, it is also the home of the Royal Bengal Tiger. The Sunderbans are a legendary and renowned wildlife destination and houses over 50 species of reptiles, nearly 60 species of mammals and over 250 species of birds. You are sure to walk away from the national park with more than one memorable encounter. 5. Gir National Park: The Gir National Park in Gujarat is the premier destination one must consider if you want to personally be in the presence of the king of the jungle. The largest reserve for Asiatic Lions within the country, the park is unique and makes it on the essential list of any wildlife enthusiast.
