@Chris920  Good to hear about yourself.

We have visited Varna and we loved our visit there.

What sort of property for you live?

Is it a house you are working on.

We are not far from Borgas.

Do you know this area?

Take care.

@donnabradford I bought a two-bedroom apartment that is completely empty. In the middle of putting in floors etc. I know Burgas because I have a small apartment in Sunny Beach and went there a lot this summer. Plovdiv, Varna, and Burgas are my favorites so far. How long time have you been in Bulgaria?

Hello Chris920,

Hi there I'm a Brit waiting for an EU passport looking to leave blighty for a better life in a country more suitable for me, with spacious and affordable Bulgaria being top of my list.

I feel sorry for British people as they're so busy working paying excessive bills dealing with overcrowding traffic jams and a lack of wilderness that they never really get the chance to find or be themselves.

I want to escape that existence for more of a self sustainable and self sufficient life on my terms in my own space surrounded by nature, not traffic and roadworks.

Thanks Britain for everything so far but it's time for a change.

@Earthling1

Hiya nice to hear of your plans to move to Bulgaria.

What area are you looking to buy?

We have a holiday home which we have owned for many years.

We try to get out as often as we can.

Maybe you would like to make friends???

Best of luck.

@Julien Hi thank you for letting me join.  We bought two houses in the Vidin area going back to 2013 with the idea then when we retire we will spend half the year there and half in the UK.  With the way things are going in the UK it may be all of the time!  We travel to Bulgaria as often as we can which because of covid has not been much over the last three years, but hopefully this can now be recetified.  Both my husband who is a marine engineer and myself a psychotherapist are both still working, but I am cutting down now as past the age of retirement.  Would be good to meet up with others when we are next in Vidin.

Hello, my name is Liza.

I hope you don't mind me sharing this post.

I'm working on popular British TV series A New Life In The Sun (Channel 4). We are currently looking for our next sets of Brits braving the move to start a new business out in Bulgaria, or perhaps already running a business there, and expanding or renovating their business this year. Please do get in touch if you are interest in applying for the series!

Thanks so much,

Liza x

@Bhavna Hi Bhavna! Noted, thank you for the information1f642.svg

Thanks very  much for allowing me to join. I am Ali from Ireland and have recently  bought a little  place in an area known as the rose valley. I have so much to learn so looking forward to reading how others are getting on especially in a rural setting.

@Ali Lee59

Welcome to the expat.com forum and good luck with your new life in Bulgaria!

The Rose Valley is not so well known by expats, but it's a great area. Tip-top choice, I commend you. :-) Our village house is also here, and we were so lucky to find it (we're just outside Kazanlak, near Enina and Shipka).

For giggles (worked for me, anyway) have a watch of "A Land of Roses", a quaint (but informative) British travelogue on the area:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UpnAdVhfosY&t=138s

Rose Oil is very expensive, so this a valuable industry, centered on Kazanlak where there is an annual Rose Festival. There are Rose Museums in Kazanlak and Damascena.

This area is also called the Valley of the Thracian Kings and there are numerous tombs (including the UNESCO-listed one in Kazanlak, where the ancient Trakkies were buried) and the Megalith at Buzovgrad.

You also get the Balkan Mountains and the spectacular Central Balkan National Park and Balgarka Nature Park. We've even got a gondola (at Sapot, just outside Karlovo) to save a few hours of hiking. Botev Peak (near Karlovo) is 2,400m, but even our local Yellow Beach Peak is 1,500m, higher than anything in UK. We have great walking and biking trails from our house. To live this close to an AONB/National Park would be prohibitively expensive in the UK.

Very important monuments to Bulgarian history are at Kalofer (the Hristo Botev Statue) and Shipka (Shipka Memorial, Shipka Church). Near Shipka is the Buzludzha Monument which is a big draw for foreign visitors (it recently received a grant from the Getty Foundation to support preservation efforts). If you haven't seen it yet, I encourage you to get up there ASAP!

Plus watersports at Koprinka Reservoir and mineral water spas at Pavel Banya. Civilization (and Lidl/Kaufland) at Karlovo and Kazanlak. A couple of monasteries, and plenty of good restaurants.

@gwynj

That video is priceless 😂. Life in the " good old days " is so appealing.

@gwynj  Thanks so much for all the information. I had done a little reading and as you have said it sounds like a very interesting  area . I actually haven't visited yet , my husband has been a few times.A friend of our is luving there years.  I hope  to be there  for the festival. So looking forward to it.
